Annual Exams

Medical exams serve as a preventive form of health care that alerts your Internist of any abnormalities or changes in your overall health. It is a great way to detect medical problems early while optimal treatment options are available. Your medical exam begins when the doctor walks in the examination room. By watching and talking to you, our physicians and staff can gather important information for your records as well as make a visual assessment of your health and wellness. As your primary care medical center, a quick review of your chart will determine whether immunizations, like an annual flu shot, or other lab work is needed to track the progression of a disease or for medication management.

A routine checkup also offers you the opportunity to discuss any concerns or changes that you may have noticed since your previous medical exams. Since physical changes and sensory issues may indicate the onset or progression of a problem, additional screenings, blood tests or lab work may be ordered. Some of the vitals checked include:

  • Blood Pressure
  • Heart Rate
  • Body Temperature
  • Balance
  • Strength
  • Vision & Hearing
  • Overall Appearance

Your doctor will also ask question about your lifestyle habits, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, sexual health, sleep habits, exercise regimen and diet. Using a stethoscope, our Internist will listen to your breath sounds and heartbeat for presence of lung or heart disease. He or she will also check your ears, nose, throat and lymph nodes for any abnormalities, and may use a variety of methods, such as pressing on your abdomen to identify the presence of abdominal fluid or by using a stethoscope to listen to your bowel for certain sounds.

For Male and Female Exams

In addition to the basics, a medical exam for men may also include a hernia exam, prostate exam, testicular exam and visual exam for signs of sexually transmitted diseases. A medical exam for women may also include a breast exam, Pap test, pelvic exam and visual exam for signs of infection or sexually transmitted diseases. At Delta IMC, our physicians still value the importance of annual medical exams for patients of all ages. The doctor will present the results of the exam, lab work and screenings, so you can ask questions and discuss any concerns that you might have. When changes to your health are detected early, numerous treatment options are available, so schedule your appointment today.
